The science
Backed by clinical research
Helios uses low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as photobiomodulation. 650 nm coherent laser light penetrates the scalp to reach the dermal papilla cells within hair follicles — the cells responsible for hair-growth signalling.
At the cellular level, photons are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondria, increasing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production and stimulating cellular metabolism. This promotes the transition of hair follicles from the telogen (resting) phase to the anagen (growth) phase.
A meta-analysis of 11 double-blinded, randomised controlled trials found a statistically significant increase in hair density with LLLT treatment. The therapeutic dose is 3–6 J/cm² per session — exactly what Helios delivers in each 20-minute session.

Helios Cap is the consumer brand of Hephaestus Ventures Ltd, a UK-based engineering company founded in 2026 and headquartered in Cambridgeshire. We design, assemble, and ship the Helios 320 Laser Helmet directly from the United Kingdom.
The company was founded by an engineer who went looking for a serious at-home LLLT device, found a market split between £3,000 clinic caps and £200 novelties, and decided to build the missing middle. Every design decision — from the 320-diode count to the rigid helmet geometry to the twenty-minute session length — is documented on our build journal.
